40 Years of Decorex International

This year marks the 40th anniversary of Decorex International, and to celebrate the milestone, the organisers decided to bring together a dozen interior designers for a spectacular campaign image – a theatrical portrait celebrating the past, present and future of design.

I was absolutely thrilled to be invited to take part.

The chosen dozen – a mix of established grandees and emerging names – gathered at the magnificent Syon House in West London to shoot the campaign in Robert Adam’s breathtaking State Dining Room. The brief? Think opulence. Drama. Decadence. Each of us was given a role to play as we took our places at a beautifully dressed banquet table, surrounded by neoclassical splendour.

I’ll admit, the promise of sequins and a bit of hair-twirling was more than enough to tempt me. But more than that, it was such an honour to be seated alongside some of the biggest names in the industry – designers I’ve long admired. Many of them have been running their practices for decades, while I came to interiors a little later in life. So to be recognised as part of the next wave of talent was really special.

Decorex dubbed us the “industry’s creative elite” on the day. I’ll happily raise a glass to that – and to the brilliant team behind me who helped get me here.

The images, shot by the wonderful Ian Winstanley, will form part of the 2017 Decorex International campaign, which rolls out in the run-up to the event this September. Watch this space.
