Flat Iron — the home of remarkable steak for everyone — approached us to design one of the much-loved brand’s new venues in Hammersmith. It was such fun to put our spin on a Flat Iron restaurant. Our interior design is designed to complement the backdrop of inspired creative planting, amazing free popcorn and post-meal ice cream which Flat Iron has become famous for.
Hammersmith’s name dates from 1294: from ‘Hammer’, ‘Smithy’ and ‘Forge’ and Ironmaster William Turner created a thriving foundries industry in the 1800s. We used this as our concept inspiration for Flat Iron’s new venue in Hammersmith, infusing our design scheme with details tying nicely back to the area’s rich blacksmith history and folklore.Including adding ironwork details to our bespoke joinery designs: from the decorative chains and studding details on the main bar to detailing on the banquettes, screens, shelving and staircases, accenting them with meshwork, forged brackets and exposed ironwork.
The raw blackened metals in the scheme are softened and warmed by honest, simple finishes including chunky timber panelling and furniture, a rich green paint palette, warm-toned marbles, patterned tiling and a layered mix of upholstery textiles. For our fitted banquette seating we have used a mixture of rich leathers and tactile weaves, finished with artisanal stitching details and glazed privacy screens. Our decorative lighting design scheme is a mix of industrial metal and prismatic glass pendants and wall lights, mixed with found items, vintage fixtures and collections in beautiful murano glass as well as coloured metal factory vintage shades above the bar. Working with the lighting designer to create a warm, atmospheric glow within the space playing with light, shade and reflections.
Our design scheme also integrates many of Flat Iron’s signature interior design DNA, including their iconic deconstructed awning, exposed copper piping and vintage inspired tiling, as well as seeking to reveal raw wall and ceiling finishes within the venue. Carrying on the Flat Iron tradition, we have looked to design a warm, welcoming space full of textural panelling, interesting finishes and salvaged vintage accessories, the perfect spot for atmospheric friends and family gatherings. Our interior design is set against a backdrop of inspired creative planting which Flat Iron has become famous for.
