Behold our branding design for Tivoli Cinemas. Its first location, launched in Bath just before Christmas 2018. Tivoli is an exciting new breed of boutique cinema, a fantastic screening venue that is also a high-end social and dining destination in its own right.
Tivoli Cinema was the perfect project for a multi-disciplinary studio like ours, with our interiors team working their spatial design and styling magic (have a look over here) in harmony with our graphics team who created Tivoli’s brand identity and all of the in-venue graphics, animated on-screen idents, and the launch marketing campaign.

We love giving old brands a facelift, but it’s often even more fun working on a brand new brand. Giving life to something unique and original. After our research and familiarisation stage, we get stuck into the logotype, which evolves over numerous iterations, crafted and tweaked until perfect.
The client wanted an enigmatic motif, full of mystery, hints of a secret members club. That evokes the places cinema can take you. Unlocking doorways to other dimensions. The mind’s eye.
The motif is at the heart of the brand. Used as a mysterious teaser in the marketing campaign, and also hidden discreetly around the venue.

The chosen logo has a slight quirk, a lean to the left. We exploited this idiosyncrasy to create an adaptable pattern, that become a useful brand device that we used throughout the venue, on coasters, on the drinks menu. And even a bespoke carpet in each of the screening rooms.

We designed all of Tivoli’s animated idents, that appear on screen once people have taken their boutique seats, and we animated the motif to wink at you on screen between each of the trailers.

We designed every touch point. So that everything oozed Tivoli’s glamorous brand. The weekly programme of what’s-on-when, the retro old-school designed physical tickets and an assortment of drinks coasters. And a luxurious gift card that comes in a cream, black and gold card wallet.
We also designed the marketing campaign than ran on buses, billboards and newspapers in the weeks before the launch. We came up with the campaign line, ‘Cinema, Re-classified’. This is a hospitality destination in its own right. Somewhere that refuses to be classified as just a cinema. A genuine must-visit cocktail bar, an amazing place for coffee. A great new venue to hook up for lunch, and then return for the Premiere.

We worked closely with our interiors team to infuse the design with our graphics. Including the hero orange neon which greets you, presiding above the bar, and a multitude of signage and wayfinding throughout the venue. We engraved each bar stool with the Tivoli logo, emblazoned the oversized coir matt at the entrance with the motif, and there are many other secret, hidden brand details scattered around the venue for the eagle-eyed. A decorative blackened steel arch with a globe feature light, leads the way to the bathrooms via a Photobooth for people to snap themselves a Tivoli momento.

We also designed Tivoli’s interior, everything from the shopfront and concierge to the main cocktail bar, cafe, lounge and restaurant. As well as styling the screening rooms and Director’s Lounge. The full piece.
