On a tranquil private road in Cobham, Surrey, this luxuriously spacious five-bed, 8000 sq ft family home is a unique blend of boutique hotel and cosy family living. A thoughtfully curated space, designed to evoke a sense of sophistication, whilst still offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. With artful creativity throughout, the interiors are contemporary chic, accented with glamorous brass and bronze finishes, gorgeous heritage paints and an eclectic mix of designer-selected furniture and textiles. Visually stimulating, yet comfortable and practical for family life.
The family living space downstairs is luxurious and ultra comfortable in size so the team created an interior look and feel for the open plan kitchen, dining room and snug to match: relaxed yet refined. Green crittall doors add depth with site lines into the hallway and separate lounge, whilst textured rugs zone the space, keeping it feeling grounded. Feature lighting over the hero dining table draws your eye, creating a focal point as you enter the space from the grandeur of the entrance hallway.
The very expansive ground floor consists of double drawing room, large study, separate family lounge and kids playroom, powder room and a huge broken-plan dining, kitchen and snug onto the gardens at the back. With utility spaces connecting behind the kitchen. The team worked closely with the clients and the house developer to zone the space and curate the materiality of the building, bathrooms and smoked oak kitchen. We also brought in beautiful original touches, such as the stunning muted-green and brass crittall doors.
Adjacent to the kitchen in the large open plan space is a TV snug, offering a cozy retreat for unwinding. With curated textured rugs, a plush velvet squidgy sofa and low level glows from table and floor lamps. Layered relaxed linen curtains frame the windows which run the entire side of the house, contrasting the marble island and complementing the charred timber kitchen cupboards nearby.
The colours and textures of the snug warm the space and create a true focal point, keeping such a large open plan room very family-orientated, and multi-purpose, with clever storage solutions and material choices which will stand the test of time.
The lounge space is separated from the open-plan kitchen/snug/diner by crittal double doors and drapes for cozy afternoons and evenings. A relaxed, playful space, with soft blush walls, a (very) squishy sofa in luscious green velvet, and patterned rug, accessorised with characterful cushions.
Layered organic window treatments throughout the property and and light cord chandeliers keep the scheme feeling fresh.
The bespoke TV unit with acres of storage adds a little unexpected colour variation, housing a wide screen TV, concealed sound system and beautiful accessories.
It was important for this lounge space to resonate with adults at the same time as being uber kiddie-friendly, so the designers created a sophisticated play area in the corner of the room. Housing a calico teepee, bobbled cushions, layered soft fleecy rugs and blankets and beautiful wooden toys and books for plenty of playtime and day-time snoozing.
Artwork fun and colourful prints zone the play area, and textured with a large upolstered seat/blanket box neatly housing lots of other toys, books and essential small person items.
Double doors from the entrance hall welcome you into a very special, large Drawing Room filled with rich velvets, layered contrasting textures in a glamourous, classic-artistic style. Luxurious yet comfortable and homely for after dinner drinks by the fire, perfect for large gatherings and family events with seating for all.
A low level joinery piece spans the width of the whole drawing room helping connect the individually styled ‘lounges’. Fluted arched doors create hidden storage whilst the home bar sits within full height shelving, mimicking the curves of the arches. Integrated lighting glows in the reflection of the antique mirror.
Heavy rust velvet curtains frame the bay windows, in front of linen sheers, and the timber parquet floor keep this glamourous duo-scheme feeling down to earth.
The first floor key spaces comprise Master Suite, Nursery and two guest bedrooms. The spacious Master is luxurious comfort, with feature velvet bed and a dedicated lounge with boucle chairs and rose sofa.
The Master has a majestic en-suite with bath and double shower. Featuring a chic vanity piece and antique bronze brassware, teamed with dark teal tiling within the double sided glass and brass walk in shower.
The nursery design is playful, organic and sustainably driven, with wooden toys built to last, decoration from independent brands, presided over by a giant teddy bear passed down through the client’s family.
Misty grey-green walls add a touch of gentle colour complemented by embroidered bespoke polkadot curtains and linen sheers. Texture is key in the space, for little ones to touch, feel and explore — the perfect tactile haven for small people.
A textile table lamp cuts a grown up touch, sitting upon a matt sage terrazzo side table with wooden toys including a guitar, cash register and mini telephone. Making the room just as inspiring for the parents at playtime and storytime before bed.
Hanging above the cot is a hand-made mobile, with extra toys displayed in a wall mounted rattan elephant shelving unit, also home to the baby monitor. A tulip inspired play table beckons for crayons and creativity.
The three guest bedrooms, with their individual ensuites and dressing rooms are a home away from home for visiting family and friends. Designed to feel like a boutique hotel, each is curated differently, and ready for a guest to stay at any given moment.
Boujiness mixes with homeliness in peach and rich green and sage neutrals. Pops of freshness shine through marble table tops and glassware, whilst animal prints on bespoke cushions, vanity pouffes and upholstery add a hint of playfulness.
The design team worked with upholsterers to create bespoke blanket boxes and footstools for each room, making spaces truly unique.
On the second floor, the guest apartment sits alongside a stylish and airy «barre studio», designed for the client to film workshops at home. Which contrasts with the dark and moody luxury home cinema next door.
